Joel Thomas Zimmerman coined his now well known name as a teen when his computer packed in; when the hard-drive started smoking and smelling he took it apart and found a dead mouse inside, and would then be named forever after the event, changing it to Deadmau5 when the correct spelling was too long for his chat room username. Since then Deadmau5 has gone from strength to strength, releasing his first studio album in 2005 and went on to head his own Mou5trap label. He is one EDM’s most successful artists and brands and is well known in the media for his opinion on EDM as a genre.
